What’s the difference between CBT & DBT?

Both CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) are research-backed approaches, but they focus on different areas:

  • CBT therapy helps you recognize and reframe negative thought patterns to change how you feel and act. It's often used for anxiety, depression, and self-esteem therapy.
  • DBT therapy builds on CBT with a focus on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness—especially helpful for people who feel emotionally overwhelmed or reactive.

If you're not sure which is right for you, your therapist will help guide the process based on your goals and preferences.
